Artist Yayoi Kusama designed an entire room filled with white domestic objects and then thousands of colored dots stickers were given to kids to decorate the room. It took two weeks to finish the installation turning the room into a genuine explosion of colors.

"Ink Calendar" makes use the timed pace of the ink spreading on the paper to indicate time.

The ink is absorbed slowly, and the numbers in the calendar are "printed" daily. One a day, they are filled with ink until the end of the month. A calendar self-updated, which enhances the perception of time passing and not only signaling it.

The ink colors are based on a spectrum, which relate to a “color temperature scale”, each month having a color related to our perception of the whether on that month. The colors range from dark blue in December to, three shades of green in spring or oranges, red in the summer.

The scale for measuring the “color temperature” that I have used is a standard called ‘D65’ and corresponds roughly to a midday sun in Western / Northern Europe.

The "Ink Calendar" was developed for “Gradual “, an exhibition featuring works, which were evolving during the exhibition time at the London Design Festival 2007.

The Japanese artist Naoko Ito from New York has made a great piece of art using only a big tree branch and jars. She has cut the branch into several pieces before putting them in the jars and then stacking the jars into the original shape of the branch, so it looks like the branch is growing inside them. This art piece is called “Ubiquitous” and is a part of Naoko’s art series “Urban Nature 2009.”

Visa and various international designers from all over the world have launched 100 beautifully designed credit cards for Epos International of Japan. Styles include everything from photography to hand scribbled graffiti by such artists and designers as Friends With You, Touma, Julian Picaud and Tristan Eaton.

The project is a collaboration with the Bleed Design, Visa and Japan's leading fashion stores Marui Co. The cards launched this past September 2008 and will be available until October 2009.

The French conceptual artist Michel de Broin designed the world's biggest disco ball the world has ever seen and suspended it high above the night sky of Paris. We are talking about a 7.5 metre disco ball featuring 1000 mirrors suspended by a freaking crane 50 metre into the air... Wow.

Canadian artist Sean Martindale created this interesting outdoor installation located in Grange Park, Toronto. In 24hrs, Sean used 21,633 feet of salvaged nylon string to write the word "FREE" between two parallel chain link fences. Sean explains "The word FREE refers to the public aspect of my projects, where I create work experienced primarily by accidental audiences.I outlined the word FREE by tying strings within and through the properties of the barrier / constraining structure of the chainlink fence." This installation is a beautiful inspirational surprise in an unexpected place.

This was painted as if it were a photo negative- whatever should be light was painted dark and vise versa. All those black marks on the face end up becoming highlights when you take a picture of the wall and invert all the colors. it then looks "normal". Painting like that is kind of a brain exercise.

A new short movie created by Karl Lagerfeld showcases the story of the Coco’s unrealized dream to visit Shanghai. One have to say from the beginning that the story is fiction. No one does certainly know if Chanel really had this dream, it’s sure however that her Rue de Cambon apartment was furnished with huge Coromandel screens and she loved Chinese art. We can also guess certain similarities between the classic Chanel tweed jacket and the Chinese Mao jacket.

Perhaps Karl Lagerfeld, the couturier who keeps Coco Chanel’s fashion dream alive, is the most able to reveal what she would have done if she really made this trip. So, as you’ll see in the movie, he supposes that in Shanghai she would have swapped her jacket for a Mao jacket, would have visited gambling clubs with Duchess of Windsor, she would have visited Marlene Dietrich in cabaret, she would have taken tea with the emperor and would have traveled with the Shanghai Express. Even if the film action is nothing but fantasy, I’m quite sure that the way Coco Chanel acts, speaks, reacts in this movie is very close to the real character’s way of being.

On April 9 2009, to celebrate their 190th anniversary, the ESC-EAP European School of Management decided to change its name to ESCP Europe. For this occasion ESCP Europe and Vanksen agency collaborated to create a stop motion 1 minute and 20 second video to underline the school’s positioning and its modern, human, and competitive values.

A significant amount of material was necessary for the video shoot: a tailor made musical track, 316 extras, 658 t-shirts, 9m2 of foam board, 4,198 photos taken, and 125 meters of gaffer tape to place 3,654 marks.

This is one really really clever and interesting tattoo by Steve Losh.

The birds represent 1’s. The spaces represent 0’s. The arrangement of birds on the wires (with the flying bird) is:

Which means MOVE in binary (note for nerds: actually it translates to four numbers which represent those letters in the two most common text encodings [ASCII and UTF-8]). If the flying bird flies away, it changes to:

And the following example is really worth mentioning due to the fact that its goal is to help us realise there are more important things than politics that deserve our attention and appreciation.
Irena Sendler
1910-2008

A 98 year-old German woman named Irena Sendler recently died. During WWII, Irena worked in the Warsaw Ghetto as a plumbing/sewer specialist. Irena smuggled Jewish children out; infants in the bottom of the tool box she carried and older children in a burlap sack she carried in the back of her truck. She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers wanted nothing to do with the dog, and the barking covered the kids’ and infants’ noises. Irena managed to smuggle out and save 2500 children. She eventually was caught, and the Nazis broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely. Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar buried under a tree in her backyard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and reunited some of the families. Most had been killed. She helped those children get placement into foster family homes or adopted.

Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize. She was not selected.

Minutes ago I've posted about a project inspired by Felice Varini without knowing that Felice did it again and this time it's big.Really big. We're not talking about an abandoned building or warehouse anymore. The buildings in the town of Vercorin in the Swiss Alps contribute to an impressive piece by Felice Varini, called Cercle et suite d'éclats. Using his 3d technique he created this pattern where the correct image can only be seen from a vantage point. Photographs from the same spot in daylight make the town look flat, almost like a postcard.

Santiago Calatrava designed the awesome TGV Railway Station in Belgium. The station will bring new life into the industrial city of Liege, while positioning it as the epicenter of the North European High-Speed Network.
“It was my goal to create a 21st century transportation facility that would not only unite Liège with the rest of Europe, but would also serve as a symbol of the city’s renewal,” said Calatrava. “The project, as a whole, creates a new gateway into Liège and re-establishes a relationship with the city.” Santiago Calatrava.

Each year the Versailles estate hosts an event presenting a famous international artist in its grounds. Last year extravagant American Jeff Koons caused controversy by taking over the Château de Versailles to display his multicoloured works. This year it is the turn of French artist Xavier Veilhan to exhibit his work.

Xavier Veilhan was born in Lyon in 1963. He lives and works in Paris. Xavier Veilhan works in a variety of media such as photography, sculpture, film, painting and installation art.

The Large Carriage, 2009.

Insolently violet, The Large Carriage is displayed in the court of honor. Here, its familiar form is deformed by a shock wave, a genuine, dazzling trajectory placed on those very cobblestones. In an acceleration, this strange horse-drawn carriage plays on references to photographical analyses of movement done at the end of the 19th century by Marey and Muybridge. As the grand siècle (17th century) rubs shoulders with modernity, the gallop metamorphosizes into a colored and optical force.

The Naked Woman, 2009.

Borrowing this great classic from Art History, here Xavier Veilhan gives us a version of the feminine nude with sparkling metal curves. Does a monument necessarily need to be monumental? Here, like a new standardmeter, the female figure regulates the court’s balance. Its pathetic size in comparison to the architectural ensemble’s affirmation of power acts to normalize; the woman, in her ingenious nudity, regulates the universe of Versailles. While remaining immutable and commanding, she also becomes modern, contemporary and delicate.

Because the famous personalities that have traversed these venerable alleys and perspectives, Xavier Veilhan wanted to add his own personal touch by creating his pantheon of great architects from the past, of whom Claude Parent would be the patriarch. A fulllength, classical-style portrait is thus made of each great architect, using an extremely sophisticated digital scanning technique.

Incredible Lightwritting photos made by Jan Wöllert and Jörg Miedza, the brains behind Light Art Performance Photography. The pair from Bremen, Germany, have been working together since 2007 but neither are full-time photographers.
Their work consists in single-shot, long-exposure images manipulated with movement of light. They used a 21.1 megapixel Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera to capture these high-resolution images.

Everything you see here has not undergone any computer enhancement, pure raw pictures as they've came out of the camera.

Two Polish architects Jedrzej Lewandowski and Lukasz Skirzynski recently presented their proposal for a ‘House on the Water’. The extraordinary design of the self-sufficient two familiy house was a result of research on yacht architecture. “The core is made of concrete and combined with steel cantilever structures. The foundation for the house is a concrete counterweight foot stabilised with the sea bed pile system”, the architects explain.
Eco-friendly features like the water desalination, energy accumulation, ventilation methods, water recycling, heat and energy consumption, tidal and solar energy systems are all there. The ‘House on the Water’ was designed to be sustainable. It is not only the installations, but it’s form and sun orientation.

State-of-the-art homeless shelter .//

This is not a new modern art museum and neither a futuristic Long Island estate. It's.... a homeless shelter in Lewisham, Great Britain. Architect Peter Barber designed the Spring Gardens center as a two-story “linear building with reception areas, double-height arcaded day rooms and training areas all with magnificent views into the garden, together with 40 en-suite rooms, each with its own south facing courtyard.

After TAG , wich I attended at Grand Palais , Paris hosts another exhibition to highlight the street culture and graffiti movement. Né dans la rue ( Born in the streets *pourlesnules ) takes place from from July 7 to 29 November 2009 at the Fondation Cartier.

"Unfolds in the exhibition spaces on the front and garden to the Cartier Foundation, the exhibition highlights the extraordinary vitality of an art movement that took off in the streets of New York at the beginning 1970s and quickly became a global phenomenon (...). This exhibition seeks to trace the contours of a vast and complex territory, which today includes much of technology, ideas and different currents.

Gerry Judah's The 44 tonne ,32 metre-high sculpture for Audi at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England.

I stumbled upon Bjorg 's jewllery website and I was quite stunned. The intro movie is fantastic, and got my mind straight to Philippe Halsman's Dalí Atomicus photograph. At first it seemed it was just a plain similarity but then I noticed the painting on the wall in the ending of the intro movie. It's a reinterpretation of Lothar Wolleh's portrait of René Magritte. There's also a pipe in the Lookbook, also very Magritte-ish . So Bjorg's inspiration from surrealism art becomes obvious. Very Very sleek ... and adds a note of mistery to her jewlleries that are also interesting.

This is anti-paparazzi bag created by Adam Harvey. Photos? No, thanks! In response to the rise of the paparazzi Adam created an anti-paparazzi device that communicates the desire to NOT be photographed. When the device detects a camera flash it responds with another flash that obscures the photo.
"Although Harvey began developing the device for his class, he wasn’t able to perfect it, and since last fall he has continued to refine the design. Currently the wiring and batteries fit in a ladies’ clutch, but he hopes to continue reducing the size of the device to the point that it could be worn in something as small as a pendant or tie tack. In its current form the device is activated by powering it on and then tilting the clutch. The sensor will register a flash being fired from up to a 45 degree angle each way."
